What kind of music do you listen to when you write?
This is one of those questions that fascinates me. I never use to listen to music when I wrote. I liked it quiet so I could think. Back in grade school the teachers always played classical music while we worked. It annoyed me to no end. However, I have since grown up (well, a little anyways) and my tastes are different. I actually enjoy listening to classical music in the mornings while I read my Bible and cook breakfast. So naturally when I started listening to music while writing, that was my first choice. However. I found that it didn't help me concentrate... at all. It might as well have not been on at all. In fact, it actually annoyed me more than anything else.
So next, I put in a soundtrack from an old movie that I use to love in high school. I'm not sure that it was the best choice either. While I loved listening to it, it was insanely distracting. It was one of those that you just couldn't help to sing along to... well, at least I couldn't.
I have finally discovered (after much trial and error) that for me, if I want to listen to music while I write, it needs to be pleasant, yet calm. Old hymns work great (but their hard to find). What about you? Do you listen to music while you write, and if so, what kind?
Did you change blog addresses? I could have sworn I already "followed" your blog...anyway, sorry I made you waste some time trying to figure out what "GFC" meant. haha. Oh, and to answer your question, NO MUSIC! No noise at all, if I can make it happen. But I do sometimes turn on the fan or the heater (depending on the season) to drown out other noises.
ReplyDeleteI did change from WordPress to Blogger. I had missed that affiliate links were a no-no on WordPress, and while I don't use them often, I like to have the option open.
ReplyDeleteI can agree with the no music thing. I use to do it that way. But another author mom let told me that when her husband is home she puts on headphones with music to drown out the noise of the house.
